Nokia unveiled three new phone models

Nokia unveiled three new phone models and said its new Booklet 3G will go on sale for about 575 euros ($820).

Nokia smartphone on line-up to better compete with Apple and put a price on the new laptop leading its foray into the fiercely-competitive netbook market. Nokia has major challenges on developing user experience, and might have to wait for a significant improvement until the second half of next year. Nokia has seen its profit margins drop over the last few quarters as handset demand has slumped, and analysts have worried that entering the PC industry, where margins are traditionally razor-thin, could further depress earnings. Nokia had to do it. You see more and more PC guys getting into the mobile operators

With the move into laptops, Nokia is crossing the border between two converging industries from the opposite direction to Mac-maker Apple, which entered the phone industry in 2007 with the iPhone.

The handset announcements, the latest moves by the Finnish firm to match Apple’s innovation in a sector switching focus to services and software, left some analysts unimpressed.

ASUS New Netbook Eee PC 1008HA Seashell Features

ASUS newest and possibly most attractive netbook is latest the Eee PC 1008HA Seashell — around here as of late, and the slim model’s gotten plenty of solid reviews in the UK, where it’s already available.

Nobody can talk about the ‘shell without praising its handsome exterior, and with good reason, too: even if you’re not a fan of a curvy, thinned-out approach, it is most definitely refreshing to see a netbook that doesn’t just look like every other netbook.

The Seashell boasts pretty standard netbook specs — 1GB of DDR2 RAM, a 160GB hard drive, and Intel GMA 950 graphics.

Its processor 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 is slightly better than the N270 crammed into most, and to that end, the 1008HA does, in our experience, boot about 20 seconds faster than the Mini 1000 — 34 and 54 seconds respectively.

It has just two USB ports, a standard headphone jack, and mini VGA port (which seems to have been chosen over VGA for aesthetic reasons only), all hidden behind those tiny flaps.

To accommodate the lack of VGA port, there’s a mini VGA to VGA adapter included in the box, and a dedicated magnetic slot to house it on the bottom side of the chassis, a unique solution to what could potentially be an annoying situation, though ultimately we’d still prefer a full VGA port.

Other than that, the Seashell boasts 802.11 B/G/N Wi-Fi, 10/100Mbps Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and a high-density, non-removable, lithium polymer battery that supposedly gets up to 6 hours of life.

Intel’s Two New SSDs with 60 percent less cost and better performance

The yawning gap between SSD performance and HDD performance is behind the push to SSD-specific interfaces on I/O hubs now, like with Intel’s upcoming Pine Trail platform. The Intel new drives boast a 25 percent reduction in read latency, which was already about 60x speed of an average hard disk write performance also doubled with this new generation.

The two new SSDs are X25M SATA parts weighing in at 80GB and 160GB, and they’re meant to replace Intel’s existing X25M drives in those capacities, but at 60 percent less cost and with better performance. The 80GB X25-M is $225 in lots of 1,000 (down from $595), and the 160GB is $440 (from $945). That’s some serious discounting, and it may well drive even more SSD uptake in the coming quarters despite the ongoing IT spending crunch.

Intel has announced two new solid state disk drives made on its leading-edge 34nm process. It’s also the case that the 34nm transition was in the works well before the financial crisis. So Intel has gone ahead and brought that capacity online and they’re going to use it to make what everyone wants right now i.e., cheaper storage, better performances, etc.

Noticeably absent from the announcement is a high-capacity 320GB drive, which many were expecting. A 320GB drive would be an expensive, premium product of the sort that nobody is buying right now so it is not tapped-out consumers. So instead of trying to sell a high-end SSD, Intel took advantage by cut the cost of making its existing flash products so that it could lower the price and sell more of them into a price-sensitive market.

Now Intel could even be making a bit more profit on each drive even while passing considerable savings on to customers.

Pros of LG’s Network Monitors

These Network monitors deliver uncompromised virtual workspaces for up to 11 users sharing a single host computer at less than $1000 per unit. These monitors eliminate the need for all users to have individual computes at their desks. And unlike thin clients, they do not need expensive servers that take up valuable space in the datacenter.

LG’s Network Monitors offer substantial cost savings compared to traditional PCs and thin clients. The monitors connect to a PCI card plugged into the host PC that creates multiple virtual workspaces in conjunction with NComputing vSpace desktop virtualization software. These LG Network monitor, N42 Series directly connect up to 11 users to the same computer. These multi-computing solutions include built-in keyboard, mouse, and audio connections. This is an ideal solution for small businesses, schools, government offices, libraries and call centers that need to provide computing capabilities but must also consider costs, maintenance and environmental impact.
